A Benefit From The Heart For The Heart
Bob Golie is a member of our local community. He was the face of Xerox in the valley and beyond, for 20 plus years. He is among those vital few who came to the rescue when your Xerox machine needed CPR. He is 51 years old, and last November he developed a bacterial infection that possibly originated in his gums, moved into his blood stream, and attacked his heart. The diagnosis was so late that Central Washington Hospital rushed Bob to The University of Washington Hospital for immediate open heart surgery. The damage was so severe that the doctors had to reconstruct part of his heart using bio-materials. Three weeks after the surgery, they discovered that Bob’s heart was leaking, and they performed a second open heart surgery, which was only partially successful and currently he was informed that he needs a heart transplant. Bob can no longer be physically active and had to take leave from work.
Inspired by Mr. Golie and his story, we have proudly created the first annual, BOBAPALOOZA Summer Concert Benefit, in partnership with many local musicians and The Columbia Valley Brewery, to raise money and awareness.
Bob is a positive thinker and to create some good from his unfortunate situation, it is important to him that we bring to light a public health message about oral hygiene. Since it is common for a person to unknowingly have a low-grade oral infection, our message this year is about oral hygiene; “See your dentist, Save your heart!”
To raise money, we are putting on a concert from 2:00 pm to midnight, showcasing six bands who have generously agreed to donate their time. There will be a series of events to raise money, as well as a series of auctions. This brings us to how you can help. We are asking for donations for our auction and your help would further our cause immensely. We need your support to help Bob, and at the same time help build a healthier community.
